Increase in use of video communication will definitely be huge. Not only does it mean more people get better quality of care (e.g. those in remote areas who otherwise wouldn’t) but it also will save so much money. Uplift Comprehensive Services, a rehabilitation center, is doing really cool things using videoconferencing technology. Instead of patients staying at the center, they receive treatment in the comfort of their home. Caregivers regularly check in and they stay in touch with doctors using mobile & desktop videoconferencing technology. Eliminating the need for doctors to travel to see the patients saved Uplift tons of money. It would usually cost doctors $500 per trip! Hi- I'm David, and I work for Dell. Great post! We're definitely seeing trends to a more mobile workforce, oftentimes with multiple devices being used (desktop, tablets, smartphones, etc.), so this concept of unified commuications is really crucial. Many IT departments are trying to play catch up with their workforce, because so many of their employees are buying their own mobile devices and using them for work.

Anyway, it's great to see innovations to reduce the number of peripherals needed in this multimedia/mobile world.

I agree 100% you summed up all my reactions when I was at the official release for the IP Edge. I also have much familiarity with ShoreTel and in comparing the features of the new Toshiba system it really seemed like an even greater set back than the CIX100, which at least didn't mask itself as a hybrid PBX. The only difference with the IP Edge and CIX100 is that the IP Edge has a good conference bridge, and you cannot hook analog trunks to it without a gateway, and it requires servers like no other Toshiba system.

Smartphones & Tablets are not practical devices for Video conference for biz we need bigger PC or TV or meeting room Screens bigger in Size enough to make it productive

Think Phones & Tablets could have own screen/Dock/HD attached camera to make it happen

Just one more tip. Quality is an issue and the best is when you can monitor call quality while you still have a test account. Here is what I suggest:

1. get test accounts from several providers
2. get Asterisk VQM evaluation from http://www.sevana.fi/
3. install VQM in your environment and configure echo server tests, that's easy (http://www.sevana.fi/QuickG... )
4. VQM will be making test calls on a regular basis collecting information about call quality storing it in the system
5. after a week choose the provider that gave the best call quality among your tests

Here is the trick: you can get Asterisk VQM evaluation for 1 week period free of charge, so it's all free, easy and effective....

I guess you didn't see Avaya demonstrate how the Flare experience works on the iPad - I saw it months ago. The tablet device was purpose built to demonstrate the Flare experience, which will work on a variety of devices, starting with the iPad. Avaya showed it working on the iPad at Enterprise Connect, the Flare Launch in NY, at InterOp, and at its user group in May.

It is to our advantage that Cisco and Avaya are making a fundamental mistake of introducing their own proprietary tablets rather than leveraging the more widely available, functional and fully supported solutions from Apple and other vendors. I'm sure any CIO will be "thrilled" to approve a purchase of a $2,000+ tablet by one of their staff.. Lifesize approach make it easier for companies as no need to host servers, service and IT manpower support but to focus on only their biz, that what many companies are doing, they call it out sourcing.

I would like to show my Parish Council the value of outfitting one classroom in our school building for Video Conferencing. We have a nice school building, but it was closed as a school 3 decades ago. Now we use it for RCIA, RE and other things of course. If I could say "Look, if we spend a few thousand dollars, our RE students can take a virtual field trip to Rome, or some other place of interest to Catholic teens.
