Not only does it mean more people get better quality of care (e.g. those in remote areas who otherwise wouldn’t) but it also will save so much money. Uplift Comprehensive Services, a rehabilitation center, is doing really cool things using videoconferencing technology. Instead of patients staying at the center, they receive treatment in the comfort of their home. Caregivers regularly check in and they stay in touch with doctors using mobile & desktop videoconferencing technology. Eliminating the need for doctors to travel to see the patients saved Uplift tons of money. It would usually cost doctors $500 per trip! Here's the full case study http://www.lifesize.com/vid... , it's really inspiring. So many exciting advancements taking place in the telehealth space! Great post! We're definitely seeing trends to a more mobile workforce, oftentimes with multiple devices being used (desktop, tablets, smartphones, etc.), so this concept of unified commuications is really crucial. Many IT departments are trying to play catch up with their workforce, because so many of their employees are buying their own mobile devices and using them for work.

Anyway, it's great to see innovations to reduce the number of peripherals needed in this multimedia/mobile world.

Re: Race is on for HD video on-the-go

Interesting to see the bias in this article, you mention Lifesize and Polycom yet fail to mention the leader in this space Cisco..... although you have shown a Cisco Cius tablet

Re: Video Conferencing Solutions: Should you video conference in the cloud?

Commenting here.

Re: New, affordable whiteboard changes video conferencing

For a whiteboard that stays pure white, check out this glass whiteboard. I also have much familiarity with ShoreTel and in comparing the features of the new Toshiba system it really seemed like an even greater set back than the CIX100, which at least didn't mask itself as a hybrid PBX. The only difference with the IP Edge and CIX100 is that the IP Edge has a good conference bridge, and you cannot hook analog trunks to it without a gateway, and it requires servers like no other Toshiba system.

Re: Where is Polycom taking the video conference market?

I think Lifesize "Connections" Dynamic new Cloud based UC service(Video,Audio IM & Data) expected to be launched any time is the future as RIM did for email

Re: IT pros look for new UC solutions, cost savings

Nice post!
zee

  http://walisystems.com

Re: Tablet wars kick-start the mobile UC market

Smartphones & Tablets are not practical devices for Video conference for biz we need bigger PC or TV or meeting room Screens bigger in Size enough to make it productive

Think Phones & Tablets could have own screen/Dock/HD attached camera to make it happen

Re: How to choose a VoIP service provider

Just one more tip. Quality is an issue and the best is when you can monitor call quality while you still have a test account. Here is what I suggest:

1. get test accounts from several providers
2. get Asterisk VQM evaluation from http://www.sevana.fi/
3. install VQM in your environment and configure echo server tests, that's easy (http://www.sevana.fi/QuickG... )
4. VQM will be making test calls on a regular basis collecting information about call quality storing it in the system
5. after a week choose the provider that gave the best call quality among your tests

Here is the trick: you can get Asterisk VQM evaluation for 1 week period free of charge, so it's all free, easy and effective....

Re: ShoreTel embraces iPad, other tablets – unlike UC competitors’ proprietary hardware

I guess you didn't see Avaya demonstrate how the Flare experience works on the iPad - I saw it months ago. For example, my ShoreTel Mobility client provides full support on my own iPad 2, my iPhone and let's just say some of my "other devices" that we'll share when they are public. We have a philosophy of delivering solutions that result in extremely high customer satisfaction, without having to sell customers on futures or flashy devices for show purposes. Perhaps that is why we just earned Gartner's Strong Positive rating in just published MarketScope report. Thanks for joining us in our largest channel partner in our history! And ok,,,,, one little teaser: We're already planning our next year event. Based on the tremendous feedback, the success of our partners, and the increasing adoption of our solutions by our customers, I have no doubt it will be our most success event ever. But for now, some things we share openly with our 1,000+ channel partners have to remain confidential.Regards, Bernard GutnickShoreTel.

Re: Help your employees find the love for video conferencing

I think that is the reason why video conference is mainly used in meeting room, not for personal use.

Re: In Florida, entirely virtual school leans heavily on video

Great article Lesley!

Re: LifeSize, Polycom look to the cloud for SMB video conferencing

Lifesize approach make it easier for companies as no need to host servers, service and IT manpower support but to focus on only their biz, that what many companies are doing, they call it out sourcing.

still other could buy the HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE if they need to host intra-cloud

Re: LifeSize, Polycom look to the cloud for SMB video conferencing

Polycom will feel the heat as LifeSize new technologies are lowering significantly Total Cost of Ownership with the Help of it's parent company, Logitech.
